Vandoren UK proud to support The Markham Awards 2020
Vandoren UK are proud to support the 2020 Markham Awards.
Founded in 2013 by Vandoren UK performing artist and leading saxophone tutor Sarah Markham, the annual awards recognise the achievements of Sarah’s graduating students. Sarah is a highly regarded saxophone tutor at the Royal College of Music junior department, Leeds College of Music and the universities of Huddersfield, Sheffield, York, Hull, and Durham.
This year’s winners are both students of Sarah’s at the Royal College of Music junior department, each picking up numerous prizes including a supply of Vandoren reeds of their choice.
Jasmine Brown picked up The Sarah Markham Saxophone Award for outstanding graduating student.
Sarah states, “Jasmine has studied with me for six years. I’m very proud of Jasmine, [she] studied with me at the Royal College of Music Junior Department from 2014 and has a scholarship to begin her studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in September.”
Jasmine plays Vandoren V12 Alto Saxophone strength 3 reeds.
Sixteen-year-old Rosemary Ball was awarded The Ralph Markham Achievement Award for personal achievement and development. Sarah says of Rosemary, “Rosemary has shown remarkable achievements in the last year. Having passed her grade 7 with distinction at the end of 2019, Rosemary decided against working towards grade 8, preferring to delve into more modern music and aspects of technique. Rosemary is now performing works such as Yoshimatsu’s Fuzzy Bird and Lauba’s Balafon, repertoire that would challenge many final year degree students.”
Rosemary plays Vandoren V12 Alto Saxophone strength 3.5 and V21 Alto Saxophone V21 strength 3.5 reeds.
